Blog 8 & 9 5-27-2007
What a quarter this has been..... I feel that because of my courseload and workload, I have been struggling in this class. I feel that I'm barely making it through this class and with the help of friends, I've hopefully fulfilled the requirements of this class. But I still need help! I have been introduced to alot of new things -- first, creating and designing a web page; 2nd - the del.ic.ious accounts; 3rd - blogging which I have become more acquainted with over the last three quarters; and 4th - podcasting. For my website, I used DreamWeaver and the tutorial site was helpful.
WOW!!! The lesson's learned from webdesign and using the web to teach -- I really believe that this is the wave of the future - technology and how to communicate with others. For me, podcasting was extremely interesting. At a future date when life isn't so hectic for me, I would like to revisit this webdesign and spend a little more concentrated time with it as well as the podcasting. I feel that I am a slow learner but once I have internalized the concepts they are there forever!!
Blog #7 - Video's 5-27-07
so onto the next website...... which I have used in the past in my blog was the YouTube website and they obviously have many videos one can watch. Today, actually I used their site to do some research on the current 2008 Presidential race and watched some video's of Senator Barack OBama. I think one of the useful things about this site is the fact that you can find almost anything you want -- clips, highlights, etc. The search is limitless.
Other websites which incorporates the use of video are various news media. Some of them are Channel 10 TV, CNN, and FoxNews. They use video to enhance their new stories, interviews, documentaries, etc. I also believe it is interesting to get several different perspectives from the media. Generally speaking, they all give a slightly different point of view.
The last website is one that I just became a member of and that is MySpace. My children are all on this site and I thought it would be a good way to keep in contact with them and their friends..... I don't my way around this site very good but it is a start and I do know it uses and incorporates the use of video on this website.

Blog #4 Fair Use
What is the concept of "fair use?" The concept of "fair use" involves the illegal use of use of copyrighted material -- thus the enactment of copyright laws. It means that one may not use materials created by others without the permission of the owner. From what I read there are three areas of concern. The first area -- what is the purpose? and who will benefit from the use of the materials? The second area --what is the nature of the work? Is the material something that can be copyrighted? And thirdly, how much copyright has been put into the work? These are all questions to be considered. I think if one is going to use another person's work then credit should be given. It is just plain and simple.
What is Creative Commons Licensing? This is a license that allows one to use copyrighted material, but with some restrictions. For example, one might be only able to copy and distribute EXACT copies of a copyrighted material, one might be able to use copyrighted materials for non-commercial purposes, or use it in a particular way so that it gives credit to the owner/creator. I believe that it allows for a loophole in the copyrighting law.
Click here for the US Copyright Office - Fair Use Website.
Click here for A Teacher's Guide to Fair Use andCopyright.
Click here to go to the Creative Commons License Website.
These websites give great explanations, attention and detail to the above topic regarding copyrighting issues.
I think Laura did an awesome job on her post! Click here to jump to Laura's Land!! :)

Blog #3 & comments
I have commented on Tia's site and Laura's site.
Blog #2 & More comments
The second favorite website is the USTA tennis website. I'm an avid tennis player and play on several leagues. It is sooo much fun. Everyone should develop over the course of their life some physical activity which will not only help to keep one in shape but also it is a good way to maintain some fun friendships.... :)
The third website is OSU. Since I am a current student here I am always accessing this site for class information, etc., especially in Fawn Winterwood's class.... :)
Each one of these websites are professionally designed and easy to navigate. The page layout/fonts/graphics are appropriate to each web and the pictures help you to know where you are at in the site. Yeah, I think my website will look like one of these..... lol.... :)
I commented on PrisonTeach's site and the site of Bryce Culver.

Blog #1 3-29-07
Please see previous blogs for my personal introduction.... Don't you just love the color PINK!!! I do!!! :)
So how will learning to design a website benefit me? It can benefit me in several ways..... I hoping that one day if I have a computer web design class -- that this class here will have taught me a few fundamentals in web design so I won't be teaching "cold turkey" and make a fool of myself..... "hands on" experience for me is the best way to learn.... Web design should also teach me something about organization and planning which will also assist in keeping one organized. I have always enjoyed Fawn's class ..... so this class should go well also.... I play tennis so I'm linking to the USTA website.... if you look around there long enough you will see my picture somewhere.... lol.... have fun!

Blot #10
I don't think I took advantage of all the things that are available in the blog area. I was just overwhelmed with life and with the video project that that took precedence.
Thanks for this opportunity to be able to express ourselves via this blog!

I think the more you work with a program the easier it gets and the skill level increases as with anything. One has to do the hard work to get the fun benefits... Nothing ever comes "free" or on a silver platter.
There is so much to learn and I don't think one will ever comprehend all the ways in which something can be done in a program!

I've been working on my video at my church in the publications department and it has been quite fun. Several people have been curious as to what I am doing and some have even commented about me working on a project for them. It is amazing how things come together even when you're not trying. I have a strong faith in God and I think it is funny how the "coincidences" of life are not that but are the Hand of God working in our lives!! It has been a hard project but I look at the benefits and rewards and the benefits outnumbers the challenges!
I'm glad we did this project!

The movie that I am making is about my son's basketball season. This is his last year at his middle school and he is the captain of the team. I thought that if I could capture the memories of this season and make a movie about it, it would accomplish the goals of this class ; and it would also accomplish making some memories. I also thought that if it turned out good enough we could copy the movie and my son could give it to his classmates and a gift as well as the school could use it to promote their sports program. I am excited about getting this assignment accomplished. I am working on the project by myself but I've had help in getting pictures and video segments from the other parents who have children on both the boy's and girl's basketball team. This is the first year that both the girl's and boy's have gone to district and both teams brought back to the school -- the ultimate..... trophies!!! What an accomplishment they have had and I'm hoping to do the same. lol... :)

Blog #6
The process of creating my video topic: hmmm.... I don't feel that I'm very creative and deciding on a topic was very difficult. However, via some discussion with classmates, I decided to piggyback on Mrs. C's idea of creating a basketball video of my son's basketball team. This would actually meet the requirements of this class as well as make a meaningful gift to the boy's basketball team. I've contacted the parents and all of them who took various pictures, etc. are willing to let me use them to create this video.... I'm working on this project alone and am hopeful that it will be fun, creative, and meaningful.

Another good question.... lol... I believe that we are living in a era where computer literacy is an absolute MUST! Graphic design provides a learning environment that fosters creative thinking and personal artistic development which influences one's literacy and learning. Today's students are more advanced because they have grown up with computers and have accquired many of the features necessary to be computer literate. Graphic design enables students to visualize many concepts that used to be in text form only. It also allows for a more interactive and fun way to learn!
For me, I just wish I had more time to play with these programs. It just takes practice and use to become good at this! :)

Hmmmm...... good question.... I think that page layout and/or newsletter could be taught in the classroom for student taking business courses. Since I'm taking courses to become a teacher this might be a good thing... lol....
When I did my newsletter project, I made a newsletter regarding my in-home business -- Reiss Enterprises -- which is a Shaklee Distributorship. For me in my Shaklee business, a newsletter would be really valuable to be able to stay in touch with consumers using my products and it would allow me to share new products, give out coupons, educate my clients regarding various products and to motivate my clients to purchase more products.
The options for using page layout and/or the newsletter is a varied as one's creativity.

2nd post
As far as this class is concerned, I'm using pictures that a friend of mine took from alot of different areas in Europe. He lives there 1/2 of the month and then in Columbus the other half but he also travels alot when in the US. I'm looking forward to using some of the techniques in this class to recreate, redesign, etc. images. I'm not sure how I will use PhotoShop in the future but it may be in my course of study to teach at some point so this is great to study the basics now.
