Blog 8 & 9 5-27-2007

What a quarter this has been..... I feel that because of my courseload and workload, I have been struggling in this class. I feel that I'm barely making it through this class and with the help of friends, I've hopefully fulfilled the requirements of this class. But I still need help! I have been introduced to alot of new things -- first, creating and designing a web page; 2nd - the del.ic.ious accounts; 3rd - blogging which I have become more acquainted with over the last three quarters; and 4th - podcasting. For my website, I used DreamWeaver and the tutorial site was helpful.

WOW!!! The lesson's learned from webdesign and using the web to teach -- I really believe that this is the wave of the future - technology and how to communicate with others. For me, podcasting was extremely interesting. At a future date when life isn't so hectic for me, I would like to revisit this webdesign and spend a little more concentrated time with it as well as the podcasting. I feel that I am a slow learner but once I have internalized the concepts they are there forever!!

Blog #7 - Video's 5-27-07

ok then - video's here I come..... I haven't frequented too many different websites until I started this series of three course from Fawn..... and the first website I went to see if it used videos was the Shaklee website..... and much to my chagrin, they have not incorporated the use of videos in their website....

so onto the next website...... which I have used in the past in my blog was the YouTube website and they obviously have many videos one can watch. Today, actually I used their site to do some research on the current 2008 Presidential race and watched some video's of Senator Barack OBama. I think one of the useful things about this site is the fact that you can find almost anything you want -- clips, highlights, etc. The search is limitless.

Other websites which incorporates the use of video are various news media. Some of them are Channel 10 TV, CNN, and FoxNews. They use video to enhance their new stories, interviews, documentaries, etc. I also believe it is interesting to get several different perspectives from the media. Generally speaking, they all give a slightly different point of view.

The last website is one that I just became a member of and that is MySpace. My children are all on this site and I thought it would be a good way to keep in contact with them and their friends..... I don't my way around this site very good but it is a start and I do know it uses and incorporates the use of video on this website.

Blog # 6 Pod Casting 5-13-07

Okay... the closest thing I've come to regarding pods was some old movie that I watched years ago where people hatched from pods.... some alien movie.... and I didn't like it.... one never knew if the person was real or was a pod..... Then when ipods came out my son got one... hmmm.... whatever happened to the radio.....lol.... I have to assume that he listens to music on it....well, that's what he says.... what kids can do these days..... (I think I'm sounding like my mother now....lol....) so podcasting.... sounds like casting a fishing reel of some sort..... lol.... when does one have time to do all that.... and Laura R. calles it "pod nation".... hmmmm.... so I guess I'm going to have to go on a search..... will be back later to share my findings..... lol... hmmm... let's see what the wikipedia definition says..... podcasting. This blog must be the mother of podcasting.... check it out!!! This site has a bunch of pods... I'm going to enjoy this..... click here!!!!

I think I've found some instructional help for downloading the pod stuff... maybe this would be helpful for Peg.... since she was just a tad frustrated about this assignment.... another site... podcasting 101.... I think I'm on my way to finding some pods.... lol...

Blog #4 Fair Use

Discuss in detail and with some depth the concept of fair use. Link to websites that offer interesting images for use with alternative copyrights. What is creative commons licensing? What other sorts of licensing did you encounter?

What is the concept of "fair use?" The concept of "fair use" involves the illegal use of use of copyrighted material -- thus the enactment of copyright laws. It means that one may not use materials created by others without the permission of the owner. From what I read there are three areas of concern. The first area -- what is the purpose? and who will benefit from the use of the materials? The second area --what is the nature of the work? Is the material something that can be copyrighted? And thirdly, how much copyright has been put into the work? These are all questions to be considered. I think if one is going to use another person's work then credit should be given. It is just plain and simple.

What is Creative Commons Licensing? This is a license that allows one to use copyrighted material, but with some restrictions. For example, one might be only able to copy and distribute EXACT copies of a copyrighted material, one might be able to use copyrighted materials for non-commercial purposes, or use it in a particular way so that it gives credit to the owner/creator. I believe that it allows for a loophole in the copyrighting law.

Click here for A Teacher's Guide to Fair Use andCopyright.

These websites give great explanations, attention and detail to the above topic regarding copyrighting issues.
